Subconscious Decisions

I figured something out about myself regarding a subconscious decision I make when I am dressing Maxfield and Wyatt.

When getting the kids dressed in the morning, if I know that we are going out to a public place or a party where there will be lots of other kids, I dress them both with the same color shirts. Not matching shirts just the same color. That way, when we are out and I scan the room or yard or park, I only have to look for one color shirt to locate my kids.

The last time I did this is when we went to my friend's farm for a picnic. I dressed both kids in green shirts. If I heard a cry or a shout or a commotion I just looked up and if I saw no green shirt by the commotion I knew my kids were not involved. I could relax.

I also realized that dressing your kids in green at a farm makes them blend right in to the crops. Which defeats the purpose of being able to locate the kids.

They definitely blend in like guerrilla soldiers.

Yeah, but why was only one wearing a crimefighting mask to protect his identity?

do you also subconciously decide to pair red shirt with orange pants? or two different socks?

I do this too. And somehow I usually have them all wearing the same color I am. Except if I'm wearing pink. For some reason the boys don't like that.

Good strategy to keep Lauren nearby the kids... that way, when you look at the hotness, you'll know the kids are right there, whether or not you can see them. ;)

My husband has a subconscious way of dressing my youngest son too.

Unfortunately, his is not as practical as yours.

He likes to grab the tightest outfit he can find for this 18 month old boy...so that if it is snug, he can tell just by looking if the diaper needs changing. I mean why else would you put the child in something that gives him a wedgie? It is ridiculous...everything he owns could be clean, and he still picks the crotch hugger???

You know, I just thought of something...maybe he is trying to make people think that the boy has some big jewels?

I like to put them in the same color I'm wearing as well. That way if they ever get lost I'll know exactly what color they were wearing because I know I'd be panicking and I would want to at least be able to convey that coherently.

Note to self: don't dress 'em in green at a farm.

at least you're not like ben stiller's character in the royal tennenbaum's and dressing them in red track suits so you can find them.

often I realize, after we're out and about, that I match the kids. I cringe at the idea of being one of THOSE MOMS... so I think it has to do with me being drawn to a particular color on a particular day.

and, you know.. if I did laundry. sometimes all that's LEFT is the halloween plaid.

Yeah, that's the thing about farms. There's all that green growing stuff laying around. :P

For me, that's not subconscious at all. When I know we're going to be somewhere where I'm going to have to locate them, I usually dress my boys in orange. Road-construction-warning orange. That's the color I seek in a sea of blue-polo'ed boys. "The orange ones are mine." - DQ

I do the same. Usually red, and usually the same shirt. Works really really well.

I must remember not to use their green shirts at a farm, though!
