Fresh Fruit

In just a couple of weeks some of the these Ruby Red Grapefruit will be ripe. This is one of my favorite things about living in Florida; having a grapefruit tree in my back yard. These grapefruit are sweet with the perfect amount of tartness and make the perfect breakfast or snack. Now I wish I had a Vodka tree as well. Because there is nothing like some fresh squeezed Vodka with some grapefruit.

Dude, I hear you on the Vodka tree, but I wouldn't waste some perfectly good vodka by mixing it with grapefruit.

My parents always told me that Money doesn't Grow on Trees but I think they were lying.....

When I was growing up in the clearwater area of FL we had a grapefruit tree in our backyard too, It was awesome!

Vodka doesn't come from trees? Darn. No wonder all those bottles I planted in the yard haven't sprouted.

I'm with Sandy on the chocolate tree.

Did you know if you cut the grapefruit in half, sprinkle with brown sugar and broil it, it's delicious when it's chilly outside?

and don't spike it with vodka!

We almost bought a house that happened to have a peach tree in the back yard, and I won't lie and say "Oh well, they probably weren't very good peaches anyway because this IS Indiana, not Georgia." They were darn good peaches. I'm afraid to plant one of our own at the house we DID buy because I think it was just a fluke of neighborhood soil or something.

Bwahaha... I think the Vodka trees are right next to the champagne trees which are located by the orange groves for making Mimosas.

I could be wrong, though.

Oooh now I want a Champagne tree!!! Thanks Circus Kelli for planting (heh, pun totally intended) that craving in my head! :-)

When I lived in FL, I wanted more than anything to have an orange, just once, picked straight off the tree by my own two hands and consumed right there on the spot. DH had me absolutely convinced (as did some of the locals) that if I were caught picking one off a tree as I strolled down the sidewalk that I would suffer dire consequences. It remains to this day one of my biggest regrets in life. I swear someday I WILL have a FL orange straight off the tree. but those grapefruit look mighty yummy....I love Ruby's! Mmmmmm.
