The look I usually get

The other night I was at the grocery store with Maxfield when we bumped into one of our neighbors. I was chatting with her in the aisle as Max was ducking back and forth behind a floor freezer in an attempt to play peek-a-boo with her. She was smiling and being playful with Max and asking him “little kid” questions.

“You’re getting so big Max. How old are you?”

“Tooooo.” Max said as he held up his two fingers.

“What comes after two?”

“Treeeeee.” He held up three fingers.

“Wow. You can count. Can’t you max?”

At this point Max got distracted by a neon sign just a few feet away. He walked over to the sign and pointed at each letter. “Beeee. Eeeee. Ceeee. Krrrkkayy. Esssss.” He proudly said.

My neighbor turned to me with a big smile on her face and said, “Wow he is so smart. For a two year old to know his letters, that is great.”

“Well,” I said, “I have only taught him how to spell the names of beers.”

The smile on her face quickly changed to a look of bewilderment as she tried to figure out whether I was serious or not.

Love it!

I found out that my son could read when he read a billboard that said - "Everyone reads the Philadelphia Inquirer". He was five. Teach them beer and they'll learn the rest - probably starting with Cheerios.

Have a great weekend.

Max,

This is the famous Budweiser beer. We know of no other brand, produced by any other brewer, which costs so much to brew and age. Our exclusive beechwood aging produces a taste, a smoothness and a drinkability you will find in no other beer at any price.

ha-ha! and now she'll probably always have a questioning look in her eyes when she sees the two of you!

teehee! She must have been flustered after that!

Max is such a smarty!! You should teach him L-A-B-A-T-T or M-O-L-S-O-N next--you know the quality real Canadian beers...

Next try something even more outrageous like

G-O-L-D-S-C-H-L-A-G-E-R

and note the reaction.

William, you are so misunderstood as a humorous man. keep up the good work with Max and Wyatt.

William, these people are strangers to you, not friends who have known you for a long time and understand you. Why Do you always look for the REACTION? It takes a while to make friends. At the rate you're going it'll be a lifetime before you cultivate a Florida friend! Either they think you're serious, or they think you're nuts. No one down there knows how funny you can be. You have to start out gently, not just slam it to them right up front. They are afraid of you. Maybe those Floridians have no sence of humor. They may be on a totally different page. I miss you. It's good Max knows his beers. Now you can start him with the Wines. Pino Grigio, Merlot, Chardonnay,Zinfandel, etc. Then move on to the Mixed drinks...Bahama Mama, Whiskey Sour, Manhatten, Martini,Cosmopolitan, Marguerita(my favorite) etc. then you can move onto Kool-Aid, Lemonade, Iced Tea, Fruit Punch etc etc. Have fun! I expect a lot from that boy come September! :) I miss you!

Does anyone know, is maggie who comments here my maggie? If so, Mama apologizes for using the "sex" word on this blog. You are a teenager, and know how babies are made, right? If not, talk to your Dad. I know he'll be glad to give you the "birds and the bees" talk. Your aunt and uncles were adopted, so you don't have to picture you know who and you know who, doing you know what! You are probably shocked! Sorry! I miss our IM's. Love you!

Momo9, you are a hoot. I wish you were my mom!!

And as the mom of a four year old whose favorite word is a-s-s (I didn't teach him that, really), sometimes you just have to ignore the looks. ;-)

I think Momo9 should adopt us all as her fan base, she's fabulous and certainly has your number. I think you should follow her advice.

Well, my kid called me a jackass at the mall today.

Nice. Jackass is my choice word when driving. Crap.

Man. You make me laugh out loud SOOOO often, it ain't even funny. If you lived anywhere near me I'd brave Lauren's wrath and drag you to classes at The Improv with me. Because I really want to go and you would be SOOO good at it! Like... inspiration, yo?!

Seriously. I'm putting that scene in a screenplay.

It's so fun to see how good a sense of humor people have. Nothing beats a good taunt.
