Da Plane

Friday nights are not what they used to be. This past Friday I think Lauren and I were in Bed by 9 O’clock. There are a couple of reasons for the early snooze time. Maxfield is the number 1 reason. Not only does he wear us out during the day but he also wakes up at 6:30 every morning. That includes Saturdays. Apparently 19-month-old kids do not believe in sleeping in on the weekends.

The other reason that we go to bed so early on Friday nights is, there is nothing to keep us up. I know some families have Friday night traditions like Pizza and a rented movie. Some families make Friday night game night where they will stay up playing board games and such. These ideas don’t work for us because Max goes to bed at 8:00 and I hate losing to Lauren. She kicks my ass at most games.

Hell there is nothing even on television that will keep our interest. I remember growing up that Friday nights was the night to stay up. I remember when I was 10, my bedtime on a school night was 9 o’clock, but on Fridays I got to stay up until 11. Why?

Love Boat and Fantasy Island.

What the hell happened to Friday night TV? There is nothing on worth watching this season. It’s either News Shows like Dateline NBC or 20/20, or shows like Numbers or Threshold. I have never attempted to watch the second two. I am sure these shows do not have as many guest stars in a season as the Love Boat or Fantasy Island would have in ONE night.

I know Three Wishes is on Friday nights, which is kind of like a reality version of Fantasy Island but c’mon without Mr. Roarke and a smattering of Barbi Benton and Tommy Lasorda it just does not work for me.

No kidding. If there is nothing on TV and blockbuster is out of good movies, we turn in early as well.

Life is so different you you have kids.

I can't stay up late anymore either. I remember before I had kids I'd be up all night doing crazy things...now the craziest thing I do is staying up past 11 and eating cold pizza.
I'm usually kissing my kids and off to bed I go. God only knows what they do when I'm in slumberland. Probably sneaking out causing trouble.....ahhh to be young again.

TV sucks a big one these days. I tried to start a Friday family night cleaning the house, but Rancito said he'd rather just have sex.

Can I say that here?

We do movie night, but it starts at 6pm with pizza in front of the TV. It's the only night we eat with the tube on. After 8pm I do homework and blog. Even more boring than sleeping. YAWN.

Once Max is a little older Friday nights will be exciting again. But don't rush that baby boy growing up. I would kill for some extra sleep on a Friday night rather than cramming myself into the movie theater with a bunch of kids. It usually takes me the entire weekend to recoop from Friday night. :)

I don't know, Lois... our daughter's almost 12 and we still are dog tired by Friday night what with soccer practice and games, volleyball practice and games, violin lessons and orchestra, etc.

Fred Grandy (Gopher!) is a conservative early morning talk show host here in the DC metropolitan area; if your Love Boat withdrawl symptoms become too severe, you could always stream him from the internet and get your fix. He's still a big dork.

As for Fantasy Island, sadly, Tattoo up and shot himself in 1993, but you can catch Mr. Roarke in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan or in Spy Kids 2 if you are truly desperate.

For now I leave you with, "Smiles everyone, Smiles!" Aaaaah...

Ahhh, the days of TGIF! I guess I'm a little younger than the rest, 'cause I don't remember ever seeing an episode of Love Boat. My Friday night goodness was Full House (Love that Uncle Jesse) and Step by Step (Loved Cody too).

Dude...was there anything greater than the Love Boat/Fantasy Island doubleheader? Sure, there was Dallas/Dynasty. And I never got into the whole 90210/Melrose Place thing. But LB/FI was the best. The only other show that kept me glued to the tube on a Friday night was Miami Vice.

Sigh. I miss the good, old-fashioned cheesy shows of our youth.

Did TGIF get dumber, or did I just get older and pickier?

We do family night on Thursdays... pizza and Survivor with the kids. Then they go to bed, and the hub and I stay up and cuddle while we watch CSI together and have a glass or two of wine. Sometimes we watch another show, sometimes we go to bed. :)

It works. But you're right about Friday night tv, it bites. Rent a movie.

Your blog was "recommended reading" over on Ellen's comments. Glad I hopped over.

Now, my two cents on this post:

Hope and Faith. You might as well just hang me.
