Why is it always a Mother F-er and never a Father F-er?

A couple of years ago, I changed the F bomb to Father F'er...but I had to keep explaining myself every time I said it and that was A LOT, and so I had to either rever to Mother F'er or quit swearing. I'm embarrassed to say which I chose...
