Bad address

We were driving to an appointment to look at a house when Lauren noticed an "Open House" sign on another street.

"Look Bill." Lauren said. "There is an open house down that road."

"Where?"

"On Dick Avenue." She replied. "Do you want to go?"

"No. I don't care how nice a house is, I could not live on a street named Dick Avenue. My brothers would have a field day with that address."

She laughed. "It would take your brothers about 20 years before they would take our address seriously...if ever."

Hee hee... I wouldn't be able to live on that street either -- but only because I would snicker everytime I said it out loud... to this day, I refer to my Uncle Dick as "Richard".

No, you definitely don't want that one. But did you see that new listing on Schlong Blvd.?

Surely there's no street named Dick!

LOL - good thinking! I once tried to get hubby to look at a house on Beaver Street - he didn't think it was a good idea either!

Let me guess the bus stop is the corner of Dick and Hertz.

Ha, ha!!! Dick avenue made me finally delurk. That's in Warminster, right? I live in Bucks County. You can't live there - nobody should have to live on a street named dick.

I've got your back on this one. Worse, however, would be living on the Hershey Highway.

Sorry. I'm 12.

One town over from me is Cocks Lane. Seriously. It's a nice area too. I could never live on that street. Could you imagine having to tell people, I live at Two Cocks Lane? Yeesh.

I'm with you, Bill, I would never be able to give out my address without sniggering. That said, there's a village about an hour away from me called Cheesefoot Head and when I win the lottery the first thing I'm going to do is buy a house there!

Heh.

Years ago, I refused to even look at a house that was for sale on a street named "Hymen Place".

I've lived on "Central", "East Main", "Winthrop" and "Mason". Can't get any more generic and harmless than that.

Ha! Good one. There is a street near us called Hassle Ave. I could never live there. How would one ever be hassle-free at home? Not that that happens much with a house full of kids -- but still!! It's the principle of the thing.

Pardon me, but the residents prefer to call it "Richard Avenue".

If nothing else, you have to avoid it for the children...though they could just lie or say they can't remember dick.

I'm sure there's some joke to be made asking if dick is a cul de sac too.

We have a street named Fagot with the most beautiful house on it. Whenever I drive by I think it would be so nice to live in that house, but how could I say the address without laughing everytime.

My husband tells me it is not pronunced the way I think. I think they just do that, because they cant handle the truth.

Dick Street? Seriously?? That's just messed up. If you like the house, couldn't you apply to the city or county to change the name if you own property there??

I live on Lust Rd... and yes, people think it's funny. go ahead and laugh, it's alright.

A few blocks over from us is Fallis Ave. I like that one because it only works when you say it out loud. Gets me every time.

ROTFL... I have to agree. When we were house hunting we looked at a home we liked in the suburb called "Cumming" and we discussed it, but we just could not bring ourselves to buy there.

Dick Avenue isn't so bad...my new house is at the corner of Knockawuddy Dr. & Bushypark Lane.

The people naming our neighborhood streets must have been high that day...and had a field day. I have to admit though...we've had fun thinking of other names for the streets in our neighborhood...as well as the pond behind us. :)
