There is a word for it but I am not sure what it is

Maxfield and I had an argument tonight. He refused to eat his dinner and I refused to give him anything else for the rest of the night. He begged me for milk. He begged me for a snack. I kept telling him his dinner was on the table and that if he was hungry he could eat that.

We argued some more. Bad moods surfaced. Max wanted to watch his show and I wanted to watch the Phillies.

Right before bed time he picked up his toy cell phone and dialed a number.

"Hello is Ethan there?" He asked loud enough for me to hear. "Hi Ethan. This is Maxfield. What are you doing?"

He paused as if he was listening to an answer from his friend Ethan.

"Oh really?" Max said into the phone even louder making sure I hear him. "You are drinking milk and watching T.V. Okay. I was just checking."

And they say sarcasm is lost on kids...

This right here is why I can't WAIT to have children. Your kids are hilarious!!!

I figured he was calling your mom to tattle on you!

Now if that doesn't say "That's MY boy!!!" nothing does

It could be "passive-aggressive," but I'd be more inclined to go with, "really clever" and "he's got your number." :)

That's just wrong. How can you force that poor kid to watch the Phillies? Tsk tsk.

That's so rad. He tried to pull the guilt card. See dad, everybodys doing it!

The word is "hilarious" and possibly "just desserts". I know the sting, as I have had my own 2 kids use my extreme sarcasm themselves and direct it in my general direction. Just WAIT...it gets even funnier...

You gave him milk and let him watch tv after that phone call, didn't you. You caved! Only someone with no heart wouldn't have caved!

That is really funny. He was trying to tell you how bad a parent you are cause Ethan's dad was letting have milk and TV. If I were him though, I would have added cookies and a Porsche, too. Maybe it'll work on my husband. Lol. Thanks, Max!!

I have to agree with your wife. Wow, talk about sarcasm. He's so young, too. He's probably ruined for life.

"SMART-ASS." That's the word you're looking for, William. You're welcome. And I'm positive it's a mystery where he gets that.

Hilarious.

Really, that had me rolling.

Too funny! I would call it creative manipulation.

Matilda made me laugh.

We've had our share of those nights around here, my six year old is the king of stubborness and not wanting to eat, though he's never called anyone to commiserate about it.

*laughs*

That was great. Gotta love it even while you're frustrated as all get out!

Bogart said...

That is fantastic.

Sounds like he might be spending a little too much time with mom.

They sure develop sarcasm at an early age. Good for you on standing your ground though. We are strict in eating policies. HotMomma and I are not short order cooks.

I miss my kids!
My oldest had an imaginary friend by the name of David. David was always called when my daughter needed to tell me something! Belive it or not, her daughter now has an imaginary friend by the name of Andrew (love the formal names?)
Don't blink, it passes all too quickly!

Actually, it happened not that long ago. I wouldn't let my husband go to a bar with a buddy. He was on the phone in the other room talking loudly to the guy, saying, "What's that, Bob, you're already there? Oh, your wife was alright with it?" Max is starting early. Really early!!!

Gotta give the kid some credit. That's pretty damn funny!

Sounds like the time my daughter lined her brother and sisters up and took an imaginary tour through Disneyland. "Please keep your arms inside the vessel until it comes to a complete stop."

Translation: I have to PLAY Disneyland because mom and dad have been to broke to take me anywhere this year. Sigh.

You should have called Ethan's mom and told her to take away his Milk and TV. I wonder what he would have done next?

Lucky he didn't use the real phone and dial 911 and say "My Dad is starving me."It's been done before. Not for food, but for other things. It's happened three times in my house by a grandchild, when their parents were here! Consider yourself lucky!!! momo9

I forgot to say again how I love watching my children be parents! Love it! Love it!!! Momo9

TGIM and I laughed over this one for a good minute, give or take. And TGIM is a tough sale, too!

I have to agree with others before me... you gotta like the kid's style.
