Lullaby

I try to let Max and Wyatt listen to music as they fall asleep. I try to stay away from songs with lyrics so the kids do not lay in bed singing along. Normally I play some instrumental Baby Einstein stuff or some CD that claims "your kids will be smarter if they listen to this" type of classical music. I do think the CD made Wyatt smarter because he learned at a very early age how to open the CD player and toss the CD across the room.

Lauren, on top of her many talents, has an excellent singing voice. Wyatt and Max prefer to fall asleep to the sounds of Lauren singing Ben Folds songs and request her to perform every night. I get a little jealous that the kids never ask me to sing to them. That may have to do with the fact that I can never remember all the words to songs.

I recently discovered this music by Sunflow. The music is perfect for kids and as a parent I love the fact that the songs are easy enough for me to learn and try to sing to the kids myself. Here is my favorite song from the CD. I wish you Love. I sound nothing like Sunflow when I try to sing the songs. Max and Wyatt seem to like the CD but have no problems telling me I should not sing and they request Lauren.

The past few nights I have been sitting in on her rendition of Lullaby by Ben Folds and I totally understand why the kids prefer her singing over me.

I am still jealous.

Just stick to scratching your butt which is one of your talents.

Can't remember 'all' the words to a song? I am lucky if I can remember one or two.

And my wife has an excellent singing voice as well. Perhaps I'll hone my butt scatching skill as anonymous poses as the alternative.

You should belch the songs. Your boys would totally request you then.

you need to find an accompaniment, some sort of drum, other percussion, or be the back up singer. My husband and I sang 'Down at the Sea Hotel' by Greg Brown as a duet for our oldest for 2 years. Every night. She asked for it and sang her part every time.
fond memories...I still tear up every time I try to sing it now, 9 years later.

Kalki-- I'm not braggin', but I'm also the champion belcher in the family... maybe I'll try that tonight... ya know, mix things up a little for the fans.

Imagine how lucky you would be if you were actually married.

Wait until their football genes kick in and then you'll be #1 at bedtime again.

My singing is most closely resembled by a water buffalo in heat that has just stepped on a large sharp rock, yet for some reason my kids love my singing.

Also, like others have indicated, my wife has a great singing voice. I should note that, just in case she reads these comments.

I miss singing to my boys. They don't ask anymore, so obviously I don't have your wife's talent.

Hahaha, I agree with Kalki. :)

Or, you could learn to play the guitar and accompany Lauren. I loved when my parents would play guitar and sing to me.

My adorable blue-eyed baby girl was 2 yrs old when she first ordered me to "Mommy. You no sing." She's never strayed from that stance, either.

What about "Lookin Pa Nub"

or "Big Old Jed had a light On"

That is ONE thing I wish I could do. I am tone deaf and can't sing AT ALL. Apparently I sound alright if I sing along to things...but on my own?? Not a chance. I never even put my kids through it and always thought how neat it would be to be able to sing or at least even hum to my kids. *sigh*

Oh well, at least I tell awesome bedtime stories!

I can't remember words to songs either. I sang only two, to my daughter that I could finish. 'I've Been Working on the Railroad' and 'My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean'. That's it.
I am sure whenever she hears those, she will be overcome with nostalgia for her dear Marmuck. (yes, that was her name for me, and still is.)

You know, Folds just released a CD of acapella versions of his stuff performed by college kids. While it doesn't meet your lyrics requirements, they might dig it!
