Maxfield has been learning about Christmas in his pre-school. Yesterday, at dinner, he talked about how his teacher read him the story of baby Jesus.
Last year for Christmas, Max’s Godfather, Mr. Miyagi, gave him a PlayMobil Nativity set. I figured I would continue Max’s education and dig out the playset and set it all up.
The cardboard manger background and all the little pieces gave me some serious trouble.
I must have said “Jesus Christ” and “Damn it” under my breath at least a dozen times.

William, your writing is great. My family and I just moved from Tampa back to Texas. We were only there for 2 years. Florida is a different world isn't it?
I just wanted to compliment you.
Thank you,

I love Playmobil. But it does, invariably, lead to cursing.
Well except for the "Damn it" part, you were just reinforcing the learning process, that's all.
so it was a religious experience for you?
I can be right in my children's faces talking and they won't hear me. Bad words are heard, and usually repeated, no matter how quietly I whisper them.
Been a reader for a year now and think you are HYSTERICAL. I'm a mom of 3 boys very close in age so I esp. love your stories about your boys. You're also a terrific writer. This post was the first one I read though, that I thought was distasteful...
...what's the point of teaching your boys about Christ-mas if you're going to be blasphemous at the same time? Even kids can smell hypocrisy a mile away.
PS, you seem like a great Dad. Stay that way... watch your language!
Well, those things are enough to cause even the most pious of people to loose their religion.

He won't think you are the "wise man" anymore... lol
Very Funny!

What does hypocrisy smell like?
Heh! I find it refreshingly forthright that you can find the humor and the irony in the situation. :)
Susie's right: Playmobil invariably leads to cursing. . . especially when you have bin after bin after bin of set after set after set, and the kids want to find that ONE piece that goes to that ONE set that turns that ONE thing that looks like that OTHER thing that they can't remember which set it goes to, but they NEED in order to set up that ONE set...
Aww, don't worry. Christ knows you were just asking for help!
