For the record...
..I think it is perfectly okay, while looking for a new house, to ask the realtor if the seller's disclosure would divulge information about whether the house is haunted or not.

It is very important going in that you know this. You must also insist on knowing if this house was built over a cemetery just in case you want to dig it up to put in a pool. Poltergeists, you know.
I think that's a good question to ask.
I think you would still buy the house if it was, it would make for great blog stories. And we know how you whore yourself out for some good blog stories. : )
I'm sure there are more wierd questions that people have asked the Realtor.
To check out the poltergeist thing, you should stack all the chairs up on the table in the kitchen, then leave the room for a while and see if they stay. And/or, turn on the TV and see if anyone's in there.
What I wish we had done before we bought our house: had someone stay downstairs and someone go upstairs and flush all the toilets. It's loud. I'm just sayin'...
I agree with Patience. Also not a good idea, ancient indian burial grounds. Or radioactive waste...
Perfectly fine.. you don't want to end up with something going "bump in the night"!
I have a story:
When renovating our century old house, we painstakingly removed all of the old wallpaper. In some rooms there were 6 layers of the stuff--we ended up taking the original wallpaper off of the walls. In one room, the office, when we finally got down to the plaster we saw some dark brown-red stains splattered all over one wall--it looked like BLOOD! Totally freaked us out--that blood must have been here since the house was built! WHat happened? A few weeks or so later we heard a strange noise coming from that room. I went in to investigate. It was coming from inside the closet. On the top shelf in the closet in a basket, the electronic scissors had started by themselves. Aaaack! Our house may be haunted....they haven't really bugged us since...
Well - haunted, mass murders, stuff like that is important to know.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who wonders, though it sounds like I might be a bit more morbid in my wondering.
Believe it or not there is case law on that exact issue and they make us learn about it in law school! There are rules for such disclosures!
Cant wait to be done with finals and come home to see you guys!
Delurking to say thank you for making me laugh everyday! =)
Scaredy Cat.
Ohhhhhhh dear.
"who ya gonna call??? GHOST BUSTERS!"
(and if a MURDER every happened there. -- ask them that.)
Boo
It's also acceptable to ask the realtor if the former owner's teenage son has walled himself up inside a hidden room of the house.
Now there's a movie that freaked me out!
i think this is actually a requirement in california
