Love Bug

One of the interesting things about living in the south is dealing with the different species of animals and critters that are unique to this part of the country. This time of the year the prevalent critter is the Love Bug. They are harmless but they are everywhere. Read about them here and here.

Basically these bugs are like little lightning bugs (without the light) and they fly around with the male stuck to the female. They get all over everything. I was telling Lauren that the problem was even worse over on the coast.

"You should see the amount of love bugs they have over in Tampa. It's worse than here."

"Well that makes sense. The first time I ever saw or heard of a love bug was when we were visiting Clara in Sarasota." Lauren replied.

"Yeah. Me too. It sucks driving. You know it is bad enough when a bug splatters on your windshield but with these bugs it is always two splattering on the winshield at the same time. They are so hard to clean off."

Lauren said, "Yup. But, you know what's gross? You know, as they fly around, they are DOING IT. "

wet a dryer sheet and use it to remove lovebugs from your car in an instant while washing it. works like a charm, every time.

Aunt C was just telling me about them. They were all over down there when she was there. She said they just land anywhere,,,even on human beings. She kept having to push them off her arms etc. She said the windsheild of the airport shuttle bus was covered. The driver didn't even try to wipe them off. She said she didn't know how he could see. I never heard of them before."Doing IT while flying" How many of us get to do that? Maybe James Bond! Of cousre I fly coach, the aisles are too narrow and the seats way too uncomfortable.

And here I thought I'd be reading a nice G-rated Family post about Herbie.

I guess it's sort of in-a-family-way...but definately not G-rated!

Ooh, rzdrms' suggestion totally works, and I was the biggest skeptic. 'Course, I never used it for lovebugs, but all bug juice is created equal, right?

[Hi Bill. I'm catching up on people's posts...I loved your pictures post!]

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug

Which means that the love bugs die at the moment of consummation. And really - isn't that how we all want to go?

I always thought it was just Gods way of saying he doesn't want us fooling around out in public. not even the insects.

Now that those eye brows are trimmed who knows what else you'll see!

I drove from Tampa to Orlando and back yesterday. Today I spent a good half hour at the carwash, scrubbing away at love bugs that had adhered to my front bumper.

Someone at 3M should figure out how to harvest the bug guts to make some super-strong bonding glue.

I live near Tampa. There are so many of those things around here. I make sure to keep my mouth closed on the way to the car!

My older kids asked why they are attached and why they are called love bugs. I told them it's because they are kissing and that's why they're called love bugs.

blech!

Did you take a picture of 'em?

Inquiring minds and all...I'm not weird, I'm just into nature and stuff and always add mating bugs on my photoblog whenever I see them....

Ok..maybe I am weird...sigh

I don't know if I've ever seen a love bug...

...though I might have been bitten at one point.

While weeding last week I happened upon two grasshoppers going at it in the privacy of a bush. I expected them to separate, all embarrassed and apologetic, but the buggers just kept right at it. RUDE.

Its because the lovebugs just met. Remember when you and Lauren first met???? You were always up on her humping her leg. They should have gotten out a firehose

you gotta gotta check out the movie "Open Season". The soundtrack is largely done by none other than Paul Westerberg!!!

Sounds like grasshoppers up in the good ole prairies of Saskatchewan.

When you gonna say TWO kids in your nutrition facts on here?? Just another thing on the "to do" list, eh???

I hope you have it changed by the time Wyatt can read and notices he has been ignored:)
