Lord's Prayer

GoodNites has offered me an opportunity to host a contest. If you enter the contest you have a chance to win GoodNites Bedtime Kit which includes a $100 gift certificate to Pajamagram.com, a $50 gift certificate to Borders as well as a blanket, journal, and tote bag from GoodNites. Something like this.

Contest Rules: Go to SpecialBedtimeMoments.com and share a special bedtime moment shared by you and your family (can be a story, tip for getting kids to sleep or rundown of your nighttime routine), along with a picture. (My brother Anonymous is totally snickering right now).

Copy the URL of your shared bedtime moment from SpecialBedtimeMoments.com and (the URL copy may not work so please copy and paste your story in my comments) or tell me which story is yours (to let me know that you participated). In a few weeks I will pick the post that I liked best and announce the winner. I will have the same contest two more times between now and mid August.

Disclamier: I have partnered with GoodNites for this series of posts; I am being compensated for writing about my family's bedtime routine and for promoting this contest, not for endorsing a product. The Lord's Prayer
I put Maxfield and Wyatt to bed every night. Once Max is settled in the top bunk I lay down next to Wyatt in the bottom bunk and we say prayers. I try to start off the prayers by asking the kids what we are thankful for that day. After we thank God for the “Back Yardigans”, “gummy worms” or “the black Spiderman” we go through a list of family and friends and ask for blessings for them. Sometimes we add a couple of special blessing requests for people we know who are sick or need some extra attention from the big guy.

We always finish our prayers by saying the Lord’s Prayer. I usually start the prayer and the kids repeat after me. Every night I crack up at Wyatt’s version of the Lord’s Prayer. He either repeats what he thinks I said or whatever is on his mind at that particular part of the prayer. What follows is a compilation fo the various things he has said during the “Our Father.”

Our Father

Our Father

Who art in heaven

Who draws art in heaven

Hallowed be thy Name.

Hallowed be YOUR Name

Thy kingdom come

Thy kingdom come

Thy will be done

Thy willby done, Dad who is Willby?

On Earth as it is in heaven

On Earth and in Uncle Kevin

Give us this day

Give us today

Our daily bread

Our daily bread with butter

And forgive us our trespasses

And forgive us our tresspassesesseses

As we forgive those who trespass against us

I am not going to say that part. Who is Willby?

And lead us not into temptation

And lead us into temptation

But deliver us from evil

And deliver us our evil

Amen

AAAAAAAmen.

There are nine other bloggers who are participating in this contest. The Blogger who sends the most readers who post on SpecialBedtimeMoments.com can receive $1000.00 in children’s books to donate to the charity of their choice. I think I would donate the books to the SPCA because I believe that if dogs and cats could learn to read they would not need to be placed in homes. They also could probably go out and get jobs and be productive members of our society. Then I realized that the job market is pretty rough right now and we would not want some felines taking what jobs that are available so I would most likely donate the books to a children’s Hospital (not a hospital run by children but one that treats children) or maybe a needy school.

So go and post and leave me a comment.

My kids are too old to be that cute (also, too old for Goodnights). When we do manage to have family prayers together, it is my husband who occasionally acts like a 3yo. Do you think this could be connected to the fact he goes to bed before the rest of the family?

I love the prayer. Wyatt's right, you would think Willby would be done by now, wouldn't you?

My kids love the book "The Giving Tree" they act out the story before bed. The boy is fast & youthful in the beginning, and in the end he is an old slow man. This helps them to get settled for bed and has been working for 8 years now. They know the entire story by heart.

Ok, so I posted an entry, but I didn't see a way to post a link to it. The title is Her Day if that helps or matters and if i can find a link at some point, I'll surely send it. I hope you win those books.

I had blogged about the twins' bedtime routine earlier this year so I went ahead and entered that story. I'm probably way over the 200 word limit so I'm probably disqualified anyway. Oh well. I didn't see a way to link to my entry, but here's the original story: http://fallofjames.blogspot.com/2009/01/tale-of-two-bed-times.html

Willby. Hilarious.

ONE TIME at BEDTIME CAMP!!!!

Nice contest.

Am I allowed to say that when my kids were little I used to say, "Hurry up and fall asleep. Hurry up and fall asleep. If mommy is asleep befoer I get in to bed, Daddy will not get any action tonight. Wyatt may ask, Who is Wilby, but my kids sang a cheer, "Action, action, Daddy wants action, A-C-T-I-O-N."

I would have loved to leave an entry to help your chances to win but I am not included in the legal participates list.
I love Wyatt's prayer. Louisa did something similar. She had a real thing for the name Bella. She'd name any new doll or toy, Bella. If we did pretend play, she would always want to be a girl named Bella.
She came home from school and said she had learned a prayer at school and wanted to say it for me.
It goes..."Our Father who art in Heaven, Bella be thy name"...
I still love that.
You've got to record Wyatt doing the Lord's prayer! Wilby would want you to do it.

HEY COOL! You guys say the Lord's Prayer the same way that *I* do! My husband says something about debtors where I say trespasses. I prefer my way (your way) and my kids love it. I also remember my kids saying, "I am not going to say that part".

Right now my 10 year old son is teaching himself the Lord's Prayer in Latin. Man, does it sound COOL! I am thinking of videotaping him and putting it on youtube...it is so awesome! Two of my sons are learning latin and I love hearing them read/speak it!

Here is my post. I didn't copy the URL, so when I hit "back" to copy it, the field where my entry was is blank. :( It wouldn't let me resubmit it on the same day. I did copy my entry before I submitted, though, and here it is. Should I be chosen as the winner, I am willing to provide to you my goodnites account login and password for investigation. Or, I can repost it tomorrow. Here it is:

Our routine is much like every other toddler's. We start with a bath. Before any toys are added, a popsicle (double pop) is consumed by Max. Preferably blue raspberry. He plays for awhile, then we set about to scrub-a-dub-dub all of his parts, while he names the part in question.

Some time ago, while reading Poop and Boogies (which I stumbled upon a while back searching for personalized gifts of the name 'Max'), I read a post about all of the different "pits" that a boy child's body has. Now, when washing our Max, his daddy (to whom I read the post aloud), names each one of these "pits." One certain pit always gets the biggest laugh (Bill, you know which one that is).

After bath, and the application of GoodNites sleep underwear, we read about 3000 stories, and then Max goes to sleep. He is out for about 12 hours.

He runs hard all day long. I had been wanting a wooden playset with which to wear him out during the day. But, after much thought, I decided that my husband might also accidentally craft a Punji stick, and the thought of that scared me a lot.

Bedtime at our house has always been peaceful, and I hope they remain that way for a long time.

Cat jobs. Ha! Thanks for that. It was way serious up until then. Cross-promotion, marketing, praying...then cat jobs. Brilliant.
