Stressing

It is starting to get a little cooler here in Florida (high 50s I know I should shut up). Lauren

LAUREN AND I

asked me to go and turn the fan off in Max's room. Of course everytime I go into his room after

ARE EXPECTING

he is sleeping I lean over the crib and I hold my hand real close to his mouth and nose, just to,

ANOTHER BABY

you know, make sure he is breathing.

WE ARE HAPPY

Do other parent's do this? Is it Paranoia (or should I say Parentnoia)? When does it stop?
MAX WILL BE A BIG BROTHER

****Update 1/4/05. Many people figured out my little secret code thing. For those who may visit this at a later time and are trying to figure it out. I italicized letters in the text to spell out "Read between the lines". If highlight the white spaces between sentences with your mouse (Click and drag) it spelled out the good news.

I could do that 100 times a night. I have just taught myself not to. I still listen to him breathe through the monitor though!

I still do that if Nik sleeps in. He's three.

I will stand over Lumpy just watching, waiting to see if his chest rise and fall. My record is well over an hour.

I don't have any kids yet, but I can only imagine. It sounds perfectly normal. The bad news is, I don't think it does end. ;)

I am guessing that I am the first one who saw your hidden message... so let me be the first to say

CONGRATULATIONS!

No, parentoia is when you eversogently squeeze your little one's nostrils closed, just for one wee second, because you can't tell if they're breathing, and doing so makes them gasp (thus proving that they're alive & well, just deeply asleep). THAT is parentoia. Not that I would know, or anything.

I have done it everylight since Em came home... I hope I don't feel the need to do so once she is married!
Trust me, you are not alone!

OH! I get it now! HA!

Very cool !!! Congratulations to you and Lauren!!!

As far as stalking your children in the middle of the night? I dont know...mine are 12 and 13 and I still stand there and watch 'em breathe. Maybe when they're moved out and have family of their own we stop.

WOOOO!!! Congratulations!!

I dunno when it stops -- my oldest is 8 -- I still do that.

I used to do that with my niece when she'd stayed with us, and I'm not even her mother. So I think it's perfectly normal to be paranoid.

Congratulations, and may your second child be a masculine child.

I still do that to my son and he's 5. I think it'll stop when he says, "MOM! Get outta my room! I'm alive. sheesh"

SuzanH said...

I still do it every once in a while (G is 8).

Totally normal.

And CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Yeah! Congratulations!
If only I had visited the site earlier, I could have been the first to see the news!

Oh and I forgot to mention it earlier...I knew to go back and highlight to read it (I used to send emails to co-workers the same way), but then I looked again and I figured out the italic letters. Now that, my friend, was VERY cool!

Ok, I'll leave you guys alone now...I promise.

Congratulations!
Baby No. 2 is the very very best. You are an old hand at parenting, and checking for life signs will never wear off. You may forget about it for a few days (when they are older) but you'll still find yourself checkin in.
I'm so happy for you both!

OH MY GOD, CONGRATULATIONS!! :D
I didn't even read what the post itself said, I just went straight to read the hidden message!
Did I say CONGRATULATIONS already?? :)

Jewl said...

Okay Bill, I want to know how you did that... the Hidden message thing, not get Laurn pregnant...LOL

I went from OMIGOD I SUCK AT PUZZLES. To hooray!! So happy for you both! Can't wait to follow the story!

And I don't get that close to Liam's face becuse I'm BEYOND PARANOID about waking him. Seriously, he rolls over and I hit the decks. But I will lightly touch his back or side or chest to make sure it's moving up and down. I will do it most likely til he starts snoring and I don't need to.

Hooray! Congratulations to the whole family!

Oh, I see now someone else was smarter, faster than I was. A lot of someones.

Congrats on the addition and congrats for having them far enough apart to save the sanity you have left!

And I just figured this out, you sneaky thing you. I said congrats in the post above, but I'll say it again.

You can use a mirror too - just under the nose.

That fog always reassures me.

I stopped doing that sometime shortly after he started sleeping through the night. He used to wake up if I even turned the doorknob to his room. Now I don't worry at all. I'm not a big worrier.
