Sign Language Study

For one of my scientific studies(Last year I asked about the invisible phone).

So in the holiday spirit of spirits....

Do you know how you may be at a party or maybe Sears and you want to signal to someone that a third party, maybe, has had too much to drink, without coming right out and saying it, so you use the universal hand signal, where you hold up your hand to your mouth to symbolize the alcoholic drink and you make the quick one-two wrist flick towards your mouth while you roll your eyes towards the said questionable drunk person. You know what I am talking about.

Well, are you the tip-of-the-thumb-to-the-mouth-pinky-extended type of "Yo. That Dude is drunk" signal giver or are you the form-your-hand-like-you-are-holding-a-cup (if you look at your hand your index finger to your thumb looks like the letter "C") and-you-take-an-imaginary-sip-from-the-edge-of-your-thumb "Yo. That Dude is drunk" signal giver?

And as a side question, what type of imaginary spirit do you think of when you are making this gesture?

And just an obeservation I made about myself while reading last years imaginary phone study and this imaginary booze study is that I can "drink" from my "phone".

  1. The reason that you think that you can drink from your phone is that when you are the drunk dude that people are talking about, you are calling everyone you know and acting drunk. So I can see how your phone is also your glass, and the drink you have in your hand is Jack. There is no other for you.

Pinky is extended for me. Now what catagory does that put me in? You are totally crazy! Get all that from your Dad, or maybe your Pop-Pop. Surely not from me! Or maybe it's due to all the passing out when you were younger. You are Crazy!

I'm a tip of the thumb guy, drinking my air beer. Unless we're referring to the Lawnwhisperer again, in which case we use both hands and imagine the Captain.....

I'm using a "C" hold and throwing it back like I'm doing a shot...a shot of something vile and nasty, like there's a hair in it.

Dude. What the... Are you drunk?

Although, come to think of it, tool shopping at Sears with TGIM probably would be a TON more fun inebriated. Huh.

Obviously, Maxfield is making the gesture in yesterdays post and he even has two olives to prove it

  12. With me it's a C and it's always vodka! (Except if it were vodka it would be in a mug or something because I never gesture the imaginary shot glass. It's more like a vat...

    Thumb and pinky extended.

Wouldn't it be great if all of us had webcams today so you could watch us demonstrate/figure it out as we read? 'Cuz you KNOW we're all doing it.

I don't think I'm either of these. I hold my hand as if I'm holding a martini. It's not a C, but the pinky isn't exactly extended, either.

Come to think of it, probably no one can interpret what the hell sort of signal I'm giving, given that my fingers look like I'm holding a freaking funnel.

C (standard tumbler grip). Double pump with rolled eyes and smirk. Bourbon.

  25. Hand in a C shape, but the imaginary drink is hoisted to the ear. Because if someone's that drunk, they're not hitting targets.

  26. Letter "C hand here as well. Not sure what imaginary booze it is, but I DO know I was making that signal about YOU at Susie's on Wednesday.
